About Snehalaya

Snehalaya is a house of love, love for the children who are in need of care and protection. the programme was officially launched by the Salesians of Donbosco Guwahati, Province, North East on 16th August,2000 on the 185h birth anniversary of St. John Bosco. It was a millennium gift for the homeless and destitute children. However, Snehalaya became operational on January 01,2001.  Snehalaya was founded by Fr. Lukose Cheruvalel in Guwahati, Started as a Small Shelter Home for boys; it has grown into a big tree with 5 Child Care Institution (CCI) for both boys & girls. It reaches nearly 6000 children in the slum areas, railway stations, streets etc. of Guwahati through its residential, advocacy and other programmes.

VISION

To build child friendly guwahati city and region where all children, particularly the young at risk; enjoy their rights to survival, protection, development and participation.

MISSION

To provide shelter to the homeless children and build up self confidence and to develop the inherent capacities of the young at risk using the educational system of Donbosco by imparting educatin and skills training, and to advocate for their rights by by networking with all like-minded people, government & non government organization and community-based programmes.

MOTTO

"To take them off from the street and put them on their feet"

Five homes of Snehalaya:

1. Auxilium Snehalaya (6-11 year girls) Residential 

2. Jyoti Snehalaya ( 12-18 year girls) Residential 

3. Ila Snehalaya (6-11 year boys) Residential 

4. Snehalaya Boys Home Dhirenpara (12-15 year boys) Residential 

5. Snehalaya Centre for Child Rights ( 16-18 year old) Residential 

6. Child Friendly Guwahati (CFG) Non residential, In the outreach program of Snehalaya about 2500 Children’s in slum areas of Guwahati are care for by motivating and mainstreaming them into the Schools in 36 Centers under the Scheme of Child Friendly Guwahati is a project of Snehalaya.
